The Queen Boss Guide: How to Beat Valheim's Sixth Boss

How to reach and defeat The Queen in Valheim's Infested Citadel — attack patterns, add management, gear, and arena tips.

The Queen is Valheim's sixth boss, fought in the Infested Citadel in Mistlands. She's fast, melee-focused, and gains more attacks the lower her health drops — the first boss with a real escalating structure. See how this site sources boss guides.

The fight

Her attack roster expands as her health drops, though exact thresholds vary by source — expect more pressure in the back half of the fight.

  • Claw slashes and a four-arm ground stab at close range.
  • Bite: a lunging attack dealing physical and poison damage together.
  • Projectile spray: a spray of poison projectiles that can hatch into Seeker Broods on impact and leaves sticky "Slimed" residue on the ground.
  • Roar: she summons Seekers (typically 2) and is left vulnerable during the animation — a good punish window.
  • Rush and burrow: a straight-line charge, and a burrow/teleport she uses to reposition.

Nearly every attack carries strong knockback, severe enough to throw you across the arena — this can happen even on a successful block. She also regenerates health if she isn't taking consistent damage, which is why fire and poison damage-over-time effects are recommended to keep pressure on between hits. She resists Pierce damage and is immune to Spirit and to most status effects except Poison and Burning.

Add management

She actively summons Seekers and Seeker Brood through her roar and her projectile spray. Sources agree there's a practical cap on how many can be out at once — the pressure is heavy but not infinite. Prioritize the boss over the adds where possible; clear them efficiently with AoE (Bile Bombs, Staff of Embers) rather than chasing them down individually.

Prep checklist

  • Armor: full, upgraded Carapace armor.
  • Melee: Mistwalker sword, with Krom Longsword or Demolisher as Black Metal-tier alternatives. Bring a backup weapon — durability drains fast in a fight this long.
  • Magic: Staff of Embers (fire DoT, also useful against her regen and for add clearing) or Staff of Frost.
  • Avoid bows and crossbows — her Pierce resistance makes them weak here even though they're strong gear elsewhere in Mistlands.
  • Consumables: Poison Resistance Mead, Bile Bombs for AoE, Major Healing Mead, a stamina or Eitr potion depending on build, and the best Mistlands food available.
  • Feather Cape: negates fall damage on the Citadel's multi-level terrain and doubles as an escape tool.

Arena and terrain

The Citadel's boss room has a genuine safe entrance zone The Queen herself can't reach — useful for healing and re-buffing mid-fight, since her health doesn't reset while you're out of combat. Her Vomit and Bite can still reach partway into the adjacent hallway, and summoned Seekers can follow you in, so it's not unconditionally safe. The arena is multi-level with a central pillar useful as a kiting anchor, and persistent mist reduces visibility — place Wisp Torches liberally.

Common mistakes

  • Relying on a bow build against her Pierce resistance.
  • Bringing only one weapon and running out of durability mid-fight.
  • Trying to block or tank the vomit spray instead of moving out of it.
  • Chasing down every add instead of keeping focus on the boss.
  • Standing near ledges — the strong knockback can throw you off the Citadel's tiered terrain.
