Valheim 1.0 Achievements: Cheats, Old Saves and Opt-In
How Valheim 1.0 achievements work with old saves, cheat flags, spawned items and modifiers, including the September Steam hotfix opt-in command.
Reviewed 2026-09-17
Valheim 1.0 introduced achievements. The original FAQ describes cheat-state restrictions, but the September 11 Steam hotfix adds an opt-in for players who used developer commands or mods. Read the dated rules together.
Tracking on old saves
Tracking starts after installing 1.0. Earlier actions may need repeating; the FAQ uses defeating Eikthyr as its example. An old world is not disqualified simply because of its age.
Cheat states in the original FAQ
| Situation | FAQ guidance |
|---|---|
Most developer commands, such as spawn | Mark the current character and world as cheated |
freefly | Named as an exception |
| Affected commands used before 1.0 | Existing characters can also be marked |
| Picking up a marked spawned item | Temporary restriction until every cheated item is discarded |
| Hammer mode | Temporary cheat state; some modifiers block particular achievements |
The FAQ calls command-based flags permanent. That describes the original policy, not an absolute bar to the later opt-in. The game asks for confirmation before entering a cheated state.
Steam hotfix achievement opt-in
The 1.0.12 announcement gives this command, with all spaces removed:
yesiuseddevcommandsbutiwantmyachievementsanyway
Iron Gate says it lets players opt into achievements after developer-command or mod use. The announcement labels the change Steam only, with other-platform rollout planned; this page does not assume that later rollout has occurred. The patch also clarifies when temporary restrictions have ended.
The announcement does not promise retroactive credit for every past activity or a universal exemption from every modifier restriction. Check the installed game's eligibility messaging. See the console reference.
Spawned items and multiplayer
The FAQ says spawned items are marked. Picking them up can temporarily restrict another character, with eligibility returning after all cheated items are discarded. Tell players when a shared world uses commands or modified items; do not infer eligibility solely from the character's inventory.
World modifiers
Some modifiers affect particular achievements. Iron Gate's cited notes do not supply a complete modifier-by-achievement matrix. Check in-game conditions and keep backups before changing a shared world's configuration.
Achievement-focused setup
- Back up the character and world.
- Check installed platform version and eligibility messages.
- Remove marked items if clearing a temporary item-based state.
- Review world modifiers and mod compatibility.
- Repeat milestones where post-installation tracking requires it.
- If choosing the Steam opt-in, use the exact officially published command above.
Documentation status
As of September 17, 2026, this page does not claim a verified complete achievement list, cross-platform trophy mapping, or multiplayer-credit matrix. Those details are not supplied by the cited FAQ and patch notes.
