Best Valheim Server Hosting (2026 Comparison)

An honest, sourced comparison of managed Valheim server hosts — DatHost, Shockbyte, Supercraft, Nitrado, GPORTAL, Apex, Sparked Host, and BisectHosting. Real starting prices, player slots, crossplay support, and who each one is actually best for.

Reviewed 2026-09-17

Valheim 1.0 launch deal — €1 for the first month. Offer confirmed September 17, 2026. Launch pricing is time-limited; it is not the renewal price. DatHost is running a limited Valheim campaign on every billing cycle. The monthly option is €1 now, then €14.90/month; longer prepaid terms show lower effective renewal rates. It includes 10 player slots, automatic updates and backups, a world manager, mods and crossplay. Claim the DatHost Valheim launch deal. If you've decided not to self-host, the next question is which managed host. They all run the same Valheim dedicated-server binary under the hood, so the real differences are price per slot, crossplay support, datacenter regions, and support quality. This page compares the main options with source notes, including where each one loses — see the data sources and editorial policy this site follows.

Self-host vs managed hosting

Self-hosting means running valheim_server.exe or valheim_server.x86_64 on your own hardware or a VPS you already control. It's free apart from electricity, but you're the one handling updates, port forwarding, and uptime. The full walkthrough is in dedicated server setup, and the configuration generator will build the exact launch line either way.

Managed hosting means paying a provider to run the server on their hardware — a web control panel, one-click updates, DDoS protection, automated backups, and a location near your players, without touching a router. A small Valheim plan typically runs a few dollars a month. The rest of this page covers that side.

This page includes affiliate links. If you buy hosting through one, this site may earn a commission at no extra cost to you — see the full disclosure below. The comparison is not ranked by payout.

Crossplay matters for which backend you pick

Valheim's dedicated server runs on either the Steam backend (Steam users only, requires port forwarding for outside players) or the PlayFab crossplay backend (-crossplay, works across all launch platforms, traffic goes through a relay so port forwarding isn't required). Not every managed host defaults to the same backend or makes it equally easy to switch — confirm PlayFab/crossplay support with the host directly if your group spans platforms, and see the crossplay guide for what each backend actually changes.

The hosts, with source notes

DatHost — the Valheim 1.0 launch campaign

Offer confirmed September 17, 2026 on the provider's pricing page. Launch pricing is time-limited.

DatHost's Valheim campaign reduces the first month to €1 on every billing cycle. The monthly option renews at €14.90/month; the six-month option shows an effective €8.90/month renewal rate, and the yearly option shows €6.90/month, with those longer terms prepaid. DatHost advertises 10 player slots, unrestricted CPU and RAM, automatic updates within 15 minutes, daily backups, one-click world management, mods and plugins, and Steam/Xbox crossplay. The provider labels the offer as a limited Valheim 1.0 launch deal, so verify the countdown and checkout total before buying. Claim the €1 Valheim deal.

After the campaign, the standard monthly renewal is €14.90, with lower effective rates on longer prepaid terms. The product page lists modern AMD or Intel CPUs, 16 GB DDR5 RAM, 30 GB NVMe storage, up to 2 Tbps DDoS protection, 49 locations, a 14-day money-back guarantee, and the ability to switch the subscription between supported games.

Shockbyte — three tiers from small groups to 10 players

Shockbyte currently lists three Valheim tiers: Eikthyr at $6.99 for the first month, then $9.99/month (3GB, 4 players); Bonemass at $9.09, then $12.99/month (4GB, 7 players); and Yagluth at $11.89, then $16.99/month (6GB+, 10 players). Those first-month figures reflect the provider's current 30% introductory offer, so check the live checkout before paying. The product page advertises instant setup, BepInEx and ValheimPlus mod support, crossplay, 24/7 support, DDoS protection, automatic backups and updates, full FTP access, and a 72-hour self-serve refund window. See Shockbyte's Valheim plans.

Supercraft — crossplay on every tier, three real sizes

Supercraft offers three tiers — S ($7.99/mo, 5 players), M ($12.99/mo, 10 players), and L ($24.99/mo, 30 players) — across five regions (US West, US East, US North-East, Europe West, Australia), with Xbox/PC crossplay, daily backups, and 17 Tbit/s DDoS protection on every tier. Mod support (BepInEx, one-click Thunderstore installs) starts at the M tier; the S tier is vanilla-only. A 2-day money-back guarantee de-risks trying it. See Supercraft's Valheim plans.

Nitrado — established brand, narrower mod support

Nitrado sells Valheim by the slot, 10 by default, on runtimes from 3 to 365 days; third-party pricing coverage puts a 30-day, 10-slot plan at roughly €13.09 on the EU store. Nitrado officially supports only ValheimPlus through its one-click add-on system — other mods aren't officially supported, which is worth knowing if your group runs a heavier modpack. See Nitrado's Valheim hosting.

GPORTAL — flexible short-term billing, explicit 1.0 support

GPORTAL bills from $6.23 for a 3-day entry plan up through $15.59/30 days, $42.08/90 days, and $79.48/180 days for 10 players, and its product page explicitly calls out Valheim 1.0 and Deep North support, full PC/Xbox crossplay, ValheimPlus and BepInEx pre-installed, 50GB of backup storage, and multi-layered DDoS protection. The short-term entry plan is useful for a launch-week or event server; left running continuously, a monthly plan works out cheaper. See GPORTAL's Valheim plans.

Apex Hosting — easiest panel, RAM-tiered pricing

Apex Hosting prices Valheim by RAM starting around $7.49/month for 2GB (10 players), scaling up through their standard tiers, across 18+ server locations. Apex is consistently reported as the most beginner-friendly control panel with responsive support — worth the premium over the cheapest options if this is your first time running any game server. See Apex's Valheim hosting.

Sparked Host — enterprise hardware, widest datacenter spread here

Sparked Host prices by RAM on enterprise-only hardware (AMD Ryzen 7950X, DDR5, RAID 1 NVMe): Thor ($6/mo, 4GB, 3 vCPU), Odin ($9/mo, 6GB, 3.25 vCPU), and Valhalla ($12/mo, 8GB, 3.5 vCPU), all with 100GB storage. Datacenters span Ashburn, Dallas, Salt Lake City, Miami, Paris, Helsinki, Vienna, London, and Singapore — nine locations. A 1-day free trial and 48-hour refund guarantee apply; game management, a dedicated IP, and Discord support are separate paid add-ons ($20, $3, and $3/month respectively). See Sparked Host's Valheim plans.

BisectHosting's Valheim plans start around $12.99/month with unlimited player slots and 50GB of NVMe storage, across roughly 10 datacenters with 7 days of backup retention, per third-party pricing coverage (their own pricing page loads via JavaScript and couldn't be confirmed directly). There's no affiliate link for BisectHosting on this page — their referral program pays in store credit rather than cash, which didn't feel worth listing as a "recommendation" the way a cash-commission link is.

Which should you pick?

For a launch-week server, DatHost's €1 first-month campaign is the strongest current introductory price here, and its 49-location spread is useful when players are geographically distributed. For a small group that wants to choose by player count and RAM, Shockbyte offers clear 4-, 7-, and 10-player tiers. If crossplay matters and you want three size tiers, Supercraft or GPORTAL both explicitly support it. If your group is heavily modded, avoid Nitrado's ValheimPlus-only limitation and look at Shockbyte, Supercraft (M/L), or Sparked Host instead. If it's your first time running any game server, Apex's panel and support reputation are worth the premium. For enterprise hardware on a mid-size budget, Sparked Host is the pick.

There's no single "best" — it depends on your group size, whether you need crossplay, and how much setup effort you want to avoid.

Already leaning toward self-hosting?

The dedicated server setup guide walks through the launch scripts and required libraries, server requirements covers the official minimums Iron Gate has actually published, and the configuration generator builds the exact launch line for either the Steam or PlayFab backend.
