Valheim Deep North: Creatures, Resources and Hazards

Deep North biome reference: creature drops, Bloodgold and Frostcore uses, crafting stations, Winding Tunnels, Mörkhalla, and the route to Kall Fimbulbringer.

Reviewed 2026-09-19

Deep North is the final biome in Valheim's boss progression. This reference covers its creatures, material uses, dungeons, and survival preparation. For the workshop sequence and an expedition checklist, follow the Deep North guide.

Details below are cross-checked against community guides where Iron Gate's notes do not supply the mechanics.

Where Deep North fits

Deep North follows Ashlands and Fader. His Relic makes the Eternal Pyre that supplies Embers, used in the charges needed to harvest Petrified Tissue for Bloodgold. Bring that supply chain with you rather than expecting every ingredient to come from northern dungeons.

The Black Forge makes casts from moulds and recipe materials. The Frost Foundry turns those casts into finished equipment or keys, using Liquid Frost from the Frigid Kiln. Smith's Aprons, Standing Loom, and Smoker extend the Black Forge, Galdr Table, and Cauldron respectively.

Boss: Kall Fimbulbringer

  • Summon: offer 3 Malicious Blood in the Strange Bowl at the Aesir Passage to enter The Prison.
  • Blood route: unlock Mörkhalla with Intricate Keys, break its Malicious Ice, then complete the resulting Jotun Invasion for one Blood. Repeat for three.
  • Fight: three phases, including a middle gauntlet of earlier Forsaken Aspects while Kall is immune.
  • Rewards: Sacrificial Blood and Crown Jewel; no Forsaken Power.

Building and survival tips

  • Clear deep snow with a Snow Shovel before laying out an outpost.
  • Watch slippery ice and frozen water. Keep a retreat route and stamina reserve when exploring the shoreline.
  • Establish storage and a protected portal before long dungeon trips; keep a supply of Liquid Frost at your workshop so returning with a mould can lead straight to an upgrade.
  • Check hotfix 1.0.10 if Deep North heavy armor cannot be repaired.
  • For older saves, new biome generation requires unexplored terrain. Read the world migration guidance before heading north.

Points of interest

Winding Tunnels, reached beneath abandoned villages, provide Frostcores and key moulds. They are the preparation dungeon for your workshop and the next dungeon tier.

Mörkhalla requires an Intricate Key. Its enemies supply armor materials and moulds; its Vegvisir marks the Aesir Passage. Destroying the Malicious Ice at the bottom starts a Jotun Invasion elsewhere in the world. Breaking the invasion core yields Malicious Blood for the boss offering.

Ancient Altars turn Memorial Coal into Fallen Warrior encounters and a chance at weapon essences. Aesir Passage is the final destination once your three Blood and boss loadout are ready.
