Valheim Ashlands Guide: Creatures, Flametal, and Fader

Ashlands biome guide for Valheim — Charred enemies, Flametal ore, cinder rain survival, and how to summon the boss Fader.

Reviewed 2026-09-19

Ashlands is Valheim's seventh biome and the biome before Deep North — a lava-scarred endgame zone built around fire hazards and top-tier gear. This guide covers what lives here, how to work Flametal, and how to beat its boss, Fader. See how this site sources world guides.

Update — September 2026: Deep North is now playable. The 1.0 notes also adjust Ashlands spawns and increase Ashlands gear durability. See patch notes.

Where Ashlands fits

Ashlands follows Mistlands and requires defeating The Queen to unlock the Drakkar, the only ship durable enough to survive the boiling ocean surrounding the Ashlands landmass. Fire-resistant, Flametal-tier gear is needed to progress once you land.

Boss: Fader

Fader is fought in a coliseum-like arena.

  • Summon: place 3 Bells around the coliseum; craft each from 3 Bell Fragments found in Charred Fortresses (9 fragments total).
  • Finding the arena: a Vegvísir found in a Charred Fortress's central tower marks its location.
  • Drops: Fader Relics and a Fader Trophy (guaranteed).
  • Why it matters: mounting the trophy grants a Forsaken Power with combat and movement bonuses. Fader precedes Kall Fimbulbringer in the Deep North. The 1.0 notes list updated Fader Relic functionality without describing the full unlock chain.

Building and survival tips

  • Cinder rain falls persistently across the biome, damaging structures and able to ignite wood — build with fireproof Grausten stone instead.
  • A Shield Generator creates a protective dome blocking cinder rain and projectile damage; it's fueled by bone materials.
  • Boiling water and lava immersion build up heat over time before dealing serious damage — Flametal armor's heat resistance helps.
  • Crossing lava fields may require Basalt Bombs to create temporary platforms.
  • Stick to coastal routes when possible, avoid nighttime exploration, and spawnproof travel routes with campfires — Ashlands has a high density of hostile spawns.

Points of interest

Charred Fortresses (walled structures marked by a green light beam, the main source of Bell Fragments and Flametal, guarded by Warlocks and turret-like Skugg), Putrid Holes (smaller dungeons holding Molten Cores), lava fields, and Dvergr camps.
