Yagluth Boss Guide: How to Summon and Beat Valheim's Fifth Boss

How to summon and defeat Yagluth in Valheim — fire and lightning attacks, gear, arena tips, and common mistakes.

Yagluth is Valheim's fifth boss, fought in Plains. Multiple sources frame this as a real difficulty spike over the first four bosses — expect to actually get hit, and to need dedicated fire-resistance prep. See how this site sources boss guides.

The fight

Three signature attacks, roughly 15-25 seconds apart:

  • Fire beam: a long-range beam (up to ~40m) that slowly tracks toward you. Strafe sideways rather than retreating straight back — running directly away keeps you in the beam longer.
  • Meteor rain: telegraphed by a glowing raised fist, then a volley of burning stones falls from the sky, usually behind or around him. Keep moving; the meteors track player positions.
  • Ground slam (nova): telegraphed by his other fist glowing, then a close-range explosion followed by lingering fire on the ground. Create distance the moment you see the windup — blocking the initial slam isn't enough, since the fire pool afterward still needs to be dodged.

Fire is the dominant damage type across all three attacks, with lightning layered into the beam and the slam specifically. No frost attacks, and no way to exploit the Wet status — his presence stops rain in the arena. He resists Pierce damage heavily (bows aren't worth building around) and is strongly fire-resistant himself.

Prep checklist

  • Armor: full Padded Armor (Iron-tier Plains set).
  • Weapon: Frostner is the most-recommended pick for its damage variety and knockback, with Silver Sword or Black Metal weapons as solid alternatives. A Black Metal Shield handles the slam's initial impact.
  • Fire Resistance (Barley Wine): treated as essential by nearly every source — bring multiple doses, since the fight can outlast one.
  • Healing: a substantial stock of Medium Healing Mead.
  • Stamina: Blood Pudding, since continuous dodging drains stamina fast.
  • Food: Lox Meat Pie and Serpent Stew paired with Blood Pudding is a commonly cited combo.

Arena and terrain

The altar's stone "finger" pillars offer real cover against the beam and meteor rain, but they aren't indestructible — repeated hits can eventually break them down over a long fight. Clear wandering Fuling patrols, Deathsquitos, and wild Lox from the area before summoning, and consider a small forward base (portal, bed, workbench) nearby. One warning worth remembering: Yagluth explodes in a final burst of flame on death — don't stand next to the corpse when the killing blow lands.

Common mistakes

  • Letting Fire Resistance mead expire mid-fight instead of re-dosing early.
  • Relying on a bow build against his Pierce resistance.
  • Not clearing the surrounding area, then getting overwhelmed by Fulings or Deathsquitos on top of the boss.
  • Retreating in a straight line from the fire beam instead of strafing sideways.
  • Standing in the lingering fire after blocking the ground slam.
