Crossplay compatibility
Iron Gate confirms full crossplay between all launch platforms. A crossplay-capable dedicated server uses the PlayFab backend, selected with the -crossplay launch argument. Steam-backend dedicated servers remain limited to Steam users.
| Player platform | All-platform crossplay announced? | Cross-platform save sync announced? |
|---|---|---|
| Steam: Windows, Linux, Mac | Yes | No general sync announced |
| Microsoft Store: Windows | Yes | Sync with Xbox saves |
| Xbox One / Series X | S | Yes |
| PlayStation 5 | Yes | No |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Yes | No |
| Mac App Store | Yes | No general sync announced |
Crossplay means players can join one another; it does not mean every storefront shares purchases or save files. See the full crossplay and server guide.
Deep North
The Deep North is the final biome update that brings Valheim to version 1.0. Iron Gate has previewed wintry terrain and systems including deep snow, slippery ice, harvestable lingonberries, a shovel, the Frost Foundry, a loom extension for the Galdr table, a drawbridge, and 67-degree roof pieces.
The release announcement also confirms new enemies, weapons, and building opportunities without publishing complete statistics or progression requirements. Those details remain outside this guide until official patch notes or the released game can be checked.
Read the Deep North preparation guide for a source-by-source breakdown.
Existing saves and world generation
Old characters and worlds remain usable. New biome generation works properly only in areas that have not been explored, and Iron Gate recommends starting from scratch for the best complete experience.
That creates a real choice for established communities: preserve bases and history, or remove uncertainty around new biome generation. Use the existing world versus new world guide before launch.
Achievements and cheats
Valheim 1.0 introduces achievements, with more than 50 previewed by Iron Gate. Tracking begins when 1.0 is installed, so past actions do not automatically award achievements.
Most developer commands can flag a character and world against achievements, including command use from before 1.0. Spawned items are marked, and some world modifiers also affect eligibility. The official FAQ provides the authoritative rules and should be reviewed before reusing a cheat-enabled save.
Mods at launch
Valheim has no official mod support. Iron Gate cannot guarantee that existing mods will work on launch day, and 1.0 will not include Steam Workshop or console mod support.
Back up modded saves, record the current mod list, and wait for each mod author's compatibility statement. A base-game update and a mod migration should be tested as separate changes whenever possible.
Estimated download sizes
Iron Gate's July estimate is:
| Version | Estimated download |
|---|---|
| Most platforms | About 4.3 GiB |
| Xbox One | About 3.0 GiB |
| Mac App Store | About 6.5 GiB |
| Microsoft Store | About 6.5 GiB |
These are download estimates, not storage-space guarantees. Final storefront downloads and installed sizes can differ.
Price at full release
The announced US base price is $29.99, with regional differences possible. Existing Early Access owners do not need to purchase the game again; their copy updates normally.
Dedicated servers
Valheim 1.0 remains a 1–10 player game. Iron Gate's current dedicated-server application supports Windows and Linux launch scripts, Steam or PlayFab networking, existing-world selection, automatic backups, visibility controls, permission files, and world modifiers.
Launch-day application changes have not yet been documented, so server owners should preserve their existing launch file and world data before updating. Continue with the Valheim 1.0 dedicated-server setup and server update checklist.
