Valheim World Guide — All Biomes, Creatures, and Bosses

A biome-by-biome Valheim world guide covering creatures, resources, building tips, and the boss unlocked in each of the game's released progression biomes.

Valheim's world is built from distinct biomes, each harder than the last, each gated by the boss of the one before it. This guide covers the released progression biomes, in the order most players progress through them — what lives there, what to gather, and how to beat the boss that unlocks the next one.

Earlier boss guides document their altar and progression requirements. Kall is named in the 1.0 notes, but his summoning, drops, and Forsaken Power are not detailed there.

Deep North is playable in 1.0. See the biome guide and patch notes.

Starting out

New worlds always begin in Meadows, the lowest-risk biome and the best place for a first base. From there, most players clear Black Forest for Copper and Tin before pushing toward Swamp for Iron — the biome most guides treat as the first real difficulty spike.

Mid and late game

Mountain introduces cold as a hazard as much as combat, gated behind the Wishbone from Bonemass. Plains is notoriously dangerous for the gear tier available when players first arrive — Deathsquitos alone catch out plenty of well-armored characters. Mistlands unlocks Eitr and the game's magic system behind a permanent, disorienting mist.

Endgame

Ashlands, with Flametal and Fader, precedes Deep North. The new region adds snow and ice hazards, crafting stations, and Kall Fimbulbringer.
