Valheim 1.0.15 Patch Notes: Terrain, Armor Moulds and Writhan Spawns
Valheim 1.0.15 explained: terrain-duplication repair, Deep North armor-mould drop changes, more Writhan spawns, and item-stand recovery advice.
Reviewed 2026-10-25
Valheim 1.0.15 released on September 18, 2026. The small patch targeted duplicated terrain and adjusted two Deep North progression bottlenecks. Iron Gate described the staggered platform rollout as crossplay compatible.
Main fixes
- Fixed terrain duplication that could reduce performance.
- Made both Jotun Warrior types drop both medium and heavy armor moulds.
- Increased Writhan spawn rates and the areas where they can appear.
- Adjusted cheated-item handling for characters using the development bypass command.
The armour-mould change means players no longer need to target a specific Jotun Warrior type for each of those two armour weights. The Writhan change also makes post-launch information about its original scarcity obsolete.
If terrain still has seams
Iron Gate said affected worlds could retain visual seams after the duplication fix. Deform the ground along a seam with the appropriate terrain tool, or walk over it when it is covered by snow. The repair should then persist instead of returning when the area reloads.
Back up the world first. A visual seam does not justify restoring an old save unless the world also lost meaningful structures or progression.
Item stands and lost upgrade levels
The 1.0 save conversion could discard variant and upgrade data from equipment on item or armour stands. Version 1.0.12 corrected future conversions, but it could not reconstruct data already lost.
Iron Gate's recovery options were to restore the backup created during the original format conversion, accepting the loss of later world changes, or open a copy of that backup, move affected gear onto a character, then bring the character back to the active world. Work on copies and preserve the untouched backups before trying either route.
